An evidence-based checklist for AI search readiness

AI-assisted search products change, and their selection systems are not fully observable. You can still improve the quality, clarity and discoverability of your website. This checklist focuses on actions you can verify—without claiming to predict private model rankings or guarantee citations.

Important distinction

A website audit measures signals such as metadata, headings, links, structured data and page accessibility. It does not prove that ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini or another AI product has cited your site. Keep those claims separate in reporting and marketing.

Check 1

Make the answer easy to identify

State what a page is about near the beginning. Use descriptive headings, concise definitions and direct explanations before adding background detail. This helps readers understand the page quickly; it does not guarantee an AI citation.

Check 2

Publish information that adds value

Use original examples, real product details, documented processes, comparisons with clear criteria and first-hand expertise where available. Rewording existing search results without adding useful information is unlikely to create a durable advantage.

Check 3

Keep important content crawlable

Check HTTP responses, robots directives, canonicals and internal links. Ensure essential text is present in the rendered page and not available only after an interaction that automated systems may not execute.

Check 4

Support claims and show who is responsible

Cite primary sources for important factual claims, display accurate author or organization information, and keep contact, product and policy details consistent. Never invent credentials, customer outcomes or citations.

Check 5

Use structured data honestly

Add schema only when it accurately represents visible page content. Structured data can clarify entities and relationships, but it is not a shortcut to inclusion or ranking in an AI answer.

Check 6

Build useful internal connections

Link related guides, tools, product explanations and evidence pages together. Descriptive anchors and a clear information architecture help users and crawlers discover related material.

Check 7

Measure what can actually be observed

Use Search Console for Google search performance and analytics for visits and conversions. Track referral traffic from AI services when available, but understand that referral data does not reveal every impression or mention.

A practical validation loop

  1. Choose a small set of important pages and record the changes you plan to make.
  2. Validate crawlability, page content, metadata, links and structured data with repeatable checks.
  3. Track organic clicks, impressions, engagement and conversions before and after publishing.
  4. Test representative questions in AI search products manually when appropriate, recording date, query and observed result. Treat samples as observations, not a universal visibility score.

Measure your starting point

FastSEOHub helps inspect website signals and organize next actions. Its scores describe measured diagnostics; they are not Google rankings, forecasts, or proof of AI citations.
